I had been following Wendy Williams for sometime at that point and was previewed to who Charlamagne was because of The Wendy Williams Experience. I recognized Angela Yee from the Reunited music video that Wu-Tang had released. I later on learned that she had worked with their management team. Although I knew DJ Envy’s work I finally had put a face to it with this preview. I was such a HOT97 stand that I felt like I was betraying my favorite station by even looking at the video, Nonetheless I tuned in. Every morning the show would begin as soon as my alarm would wake me up for work. I was fully vested throughout the entire saga of what was The Breakfast Club. Then we get the news of Angela Yee departing from the show after 12 years.
I knew it was coming. As much as many may claim this had already been in the works, you can tell that the chemistry was no longer the same between all three host. I remember just not having the same feeling about the show and it may have been a combination of hearing their responses, the internet take over, the pandemic, or just not seeing them bond outside of the show as we once did. Whatever it was I just felt it.
Since Angela’s departure from The Breakfast Club, they have had a lot of special guest co- hosting. I’m sure no one cares about my opinion on this but I do feel like the show should invite new fresh journalist on board to merge modern flavor with the talented host that remain on the show. This would allow them to build a innovative roster for POWER105 ’s future. Now that we live in an era where dial-up is a thing of the past I stopped listening to the radio, however I will still tune into their interviews. The show seems to still be in a successful place as today Charlamagne announced that The Breakfast Club will now be broadcasted Monday - Friday at 9AM on BET and VH1. This is super major and more of a reason to have that new fresh face to permanently sit on that third chair. What do you think?
